Thanksgiving, a poem for Nicki Aycox by Tracy Diane Miller

You could have kept your music
Your secret that we wouldn’t hear
But you blessed us with beautiful songs
To help us fight our fear

In the comfort of your solitude
Where lyrics and music
Reside within your mind
You faced your own fears
And a melody became yours to find

Naysayers are the loudest
With the ugliest voice
But thankfully your heart refused to listen
A musician born by choice

Inside of you
The girl of your past can now smile
For you freed her through your songs
She is no longer silent
She ached to sing for awhile

Your music is Thanksgiving
My heart you profoundly touch
For all you continue to inspire
Through poetry I thank you very much
