Nostalgia calms the cynical heart, a poem for Mike by Tracy Diane Miller

The beauty of nostalgia
To remember the memories of the past
Where a laugh was certain to linger
And bygone days could last

I remember the child I once was
Was optimism the key
Nostalgia calms the cynical heart
Where innocence my soul could see

I remember a song
Old television shows too
For before there was the Internet
The simple life a generation made due

Nostalgia calms the cynical heart
I know you understand
For you’re a champion of decency
A southern gentleman

My mother was my touchstone
My dreams she encouraged me to see
Nostalgia calms the cynical heart
Remembering the joy that life can be
