Stop the violence, a poem by Tracy Diane Miller

Children are not born to hate
When they find a friend
There is no thought of race
With love in their hearts
Sincerity they embrace

Yet somehow
Some adults will draw a line
When race becomes a barrier
And hate they soon find

Guns and then blood
Awash the Earth
The ugliness of hate poisons hearts
People die
Over and over and over again
We ask ourselves why

Stop the violence
We desperately plea
As the images of senseless killings
Is what our eyes now always see

To live in a world
Where people value compassion and kindness
More than they value guns
To walk that first step
Towards loving and respecting others
Only then we will have won
